Where does the chess training/trial study take place?

The chess groups and personal chess training/trial sessions take place at Menzelstr. 2a in Bogenhausen. The training room is only 3 minutes away from Herkommerplatz and is also easily accessible by car.

The training session is usually divided into the following units: 1/3 teaching new knowledge, 1/3 exercises, 1/3 chess game.

In the chess groups, we cover one topic per session. We aim to achieve the respective milestones together as a group.

For children aged 4-7 years, we recommend a weekly training time of 45 minutes. From the age of 8, a full hour can be trained. There are already many children who can concentrate very well even at a young age. These children can also train for the full hour earlier.
You do not need any materials for individual training, as these will all be provided by us. We will create your individual training plan and give you the necessary materials free of charge.

Your chess skill is measured in Elo points. To find out your score, create an account on Lichess and play at least 5 games.

Alternatively, you can rate yourself by determining your chess level on the website.

Our subscription model is based on proven offerings for children in these age groups. We know that time is a crucial factor for parents in providing additional educational opportunities for children outside of school. Therefore, our model has a small but significant special feature: instead of unlimited access, we deliberately offer a fixed training day per week.

The advantages at a glance:

  • Planning security Parents can plan rigidly; chess thus becomes an integral part of the weekly routine.

  • Collaborative learning We take a lot of time to put together the best possible group constellation so that all children learn at the same pace.

  • Safe Space Our chess lessons offer a safe space in small groups with children of equal ability. This allows us to individually address strengths and weaknesses.

  1. The goal: You win when the enemy king is in check (attacked) and there is no legal move to defend against this attack. This is called checkmate. Checkmate.

  2. The gait

    • King A field in every direction.

    • Madam Any number of fields horizontally, vertically or diagonally.

    • Tower Any number of fields horizontally or vertically.

    • Runner Any number of fields diagonally.

    • Springer Moves in an L-shape and is the only piece that can jump over others.

    • Bauer: One square forward (two on the first move). Captures only diagonally.

  3. Special trains

    • Castling The king and rook move simultaneously to the king's safety.

    • En passant A special bonus for farmers.

    • Conversion: When a pawn reaches the final rank, it is usually promoted to a queen.

  4. Draw

    • Patt A player is on turn, is not in check, but cannot make any legal moves.

    • Position re-run: The exact same position occurs three times.

    • Material shortage There are no longer enough pieces for a checkmate.

Tip: Für tiefergehendes Wissen empfehlen wir unser Chess card set for beginners – even adults can learn something here!
  1. Yes – this is confirmed by scientific studies as well as SchachDino's experience from over 1,000 chess training sessions. Chess trains concentration, logical thinking, spatial reasoning, and self-discipline – skills that directly impact academic performance, particularly in mathematics. Therefore, the SchachDino course „Maxi's“ places a special focus on improving academic performance. Parents regularly report measurable progress in school life after a few months of regular chess training.

  1. Children can start chess training at SchachDino from the age of 4. For the youngest (4–5 years old), we recommend the 45-minute „Mini's“ course, which is specially designed for short attention spans and playful learning. From 6–7 years old, the 60-minute „Maxi's“ course is ideal. As a general rule, the earlier children start, the easier they will find it to learn the basic rules and strategies – similar to learning a musical instrument.

I don't know my Elo rating, how can I find out?

Book a trial session and we will give you a personal assessment of your playing strength.
It is advisable to hold chess training sessions regularly, as practice makes perfect. For adults, a one-to-two week gap between sessions is suitable. For children and teenagers, it is recommended to hold training weekly.
We train online up to an Elo rating of 2200 and in person up to 1800 Elo points.

Groups are limited to a maximum of 8 children. Depending on which group you choose, the groups are even smaller.

Ordinarily, parents are not present during training so that the children are not distracted. In special cases, parents can watch a session if the child is not yet brave enough to attend the lesson alone.

Mini-course

Our mini-courses focus on children learning all the pieces and rules with fun and enjoyment. We work our way up to the first chess games together, where we even play with the chess clock. Our goal is for the children to remain concentrated for a longer period of time and to observe all the rules during the game.

Advanced Course

In the advanced course, we aim for further attacks against the opponent's king. Motifs such as checkmate, stalemate, and castling are an integral part of the training plan. Furthermore, we learn more difficult tactics, which enable the children to think several moves ahead.

Advanced

In the advanced courses, we cover topics such as opening training, endgames, and advanced tactics to find brilliant moves. With a focus on tournament participation, we will deepen the opening repertoire for the first official matches.

  1. Lichess.org: Create a free account to solve tactics puzzles.

  2. YouTube: Watch instructional videos, but also actively apply what you learn.

  3. Play, play, play: This is the most helpful. A tip from the pros: analyse every game afterwards to learn from your mistakes.

  4. Chess coach This is where we come in. We help you target weaknesses and make faster progress.

Unlike a traditional club, our focus, alongside performance, is explicitly on the Educational fun. We specialise in children's chess. Children learn better through intrinsic motivation and curiosity in an environment that excites them. In small groups of a maximum of 8 children We guarantee individual care instead of mass production. Every child gets the space here to shine.

After just 6-7 sessions with SchachDino, most children know all the basic rules and can play their first complete game. The SchachDino concept works with 6 clearly defined milestones, so parents can always track their child's progress – completely without pressure. For a solid foundation with independent play, we typically expect around 2-3 months of regular weekly training.
